コレクション: Butterfly Cat Toys

A butterfly cat toy adds bright, fluttering movement that invites batting, leaping and pouncing. We carry two very different designs: FlutterBloom™, a rechargeable interactive butterfly cat toy that flaps when a paw touches it, and Wild Wing Chase™, which swings a butterfly around a suction-cup base on a flexible wire. Compare them below to see which suits your cat and your space.

A butterfly cat toy imitates the erratic flutter of a butterfly to trigger stalking and pouncing. Floor designs like FlutterBloom flap when touched and can be caught and carried off like prey. Wire-mounted designs like Wild Wing Chase keep the butterfly moving through the air around a fixed base, which suits cats that love to jump.

How to choose butterfly toys for cats

Floor prey or aerial target?

Watch where your cat does its hunting. Cats that grab, wrestle and carry toys usually enjoy a floor butterfly they can actually capture: FlutterBloom wakes up when paws make contact and changes position as your cat bats it. Cats that chatter at birds through the window may prefer an aerial target. Wild Wing Chase rotates its butterfly 360° on a flexible wire that adds bounce and variation to the route.

Both toys are rechargeable

FlutterBloom charges by USB, so there are no disposable batteries to replace. Wild Wing Chase is the Rechargeable Upgrade version, so it is rechargeable too.

Where you’ll use it

Wild Wing Chase needs a clean, smooth, flat surface such as glass, tile or polished wood for its suction cup, and it extends up to 84 cm (33.1 in), so leave room around it. Its detachable handle also turns it into a handheld teaser. FlutterBloom works on the floor, in your hand, or attached securely for supervised hanging or wand play.

Cleaning and upkeep

FlutterBloom’s electronic core comes out before you clean the outer cover. Wild Wing Chase has a replaceable butterfly, and replacement colors can vary.

Build a hide-and-pounce setup

Butterflies are more exciting when your cat can ambush them. FlutterBloom’s product notes suggest placing it on flat flooring outside the opening of our CrinkleCove™ paper hideout (sold separately): tap the butterfly to start it, step back and let your cat watch, emerge and pounce. Keep the toys separate and leave room for the wings and a clear exit.

Safety and setup tips

  • Supervise play and inspect the toy and any attachment before each session; remove it if damaged.
  • Press suction cups firmly onto a clean, dry surface and test the hold by hand before every session.
  • Stop using a wire toy if the wire bends sharply, loosens or the butterfly comes loose.
  • Store butterfly toys out of reach after play so wings and wires aren’t chewed.

Butterfly Cat Toys: frequently asked questions

Are butterfly toys good for cats?

Butterfly toys offer quick, fluttering movement that many cats find hard to ignore, which encourages stalking, batting and jumping. They work best in short, supervised sessions rotated with other toys so the movement stays interesting. Cats vary: some prefer a butterfly they can catch on the floor, others a target that moves through the air.

What is the difference between FlutterBloom and Wild Wing Chase?

FlutterBloom is a rechargeable floor butterfly that flaps when your cat touches it, then can be batted, chased and carried. Wild Wing Chase mounts on a suction-cup base and rotates a butterfly 360 degrees on a flexible wire up to 33.1 inches long, giving jumpers an aerial target. It also works as a handheld teaser.

Where should I put a butterfly cat toy with a suction cup?

Choose a clean, dry, smooth and flat surface such as glass, tile or polished wood; textured surfaces reduce adhesion. Press the suction cup firmly and test the hold by hand before every session. Keep the area clear of breakable objects and give your cat enough room to jump and land safely.

How do I clean a butterfly cat toy?

For FlutterBloom, remove the electronic core before cleaning the outer cover, and keep the electronics dry. For Wild Wing Chase, inspect the wire and butterfly regularly and swap in a replacement butterfly when the old one looks worn; replacement colors can vary. Check every part again before the next play session.

Can my cat play with a butterfly toy alone?

We recommend supervised play for both butterfly toys. FlutterBloom only moves when touched, and Wild Wing Chase relies on a suction mount that should be tested each time. Watching also shows you which movement your cat prefers. After play, store the toy out of reach so wings and wires aren’t chewed.
